New BearExtender for Your WiFi Network

Wi-Fi is a bit of a fickle thing. While it’s great when the single is strong, if you’re blocked by architecture or stretched to the limits of the router, your signal is going to be spotty at best. Enter the new BearExtender. Essentially it is a Wi-Fi antenna that allows you to capture a stronger signal and keep it even at great distances from the source.

The device itself connects to your computer via a miniUSB cable (and comes with two of varying lengths to fit your needs). This device can effectively triple the distance you can travel from your router and will enable stable up and download speeds at just about any range within its limits. It won’t give you free license to roam into the neighbor’s yard but it will keep you happily surfing the net even at up to 240 feet or more!

The device comes with a clip that you can use to attach the antenna to your computer but that doesn’t work so well as Velcro. Of course, there’s also the option of just carrying the extender with you like another peripheral which works for folks who don’t want to sully their hardware with semi-permanent attachments.

The device is about mid-range in what I would consider an acceptable price for something with this functionality ($45) but is worth every penny if you don’t like to be tied to within spitting distance of your router.
