Apple late Sunday virtually confirmed its impending MacBook Pro update through shipping delays on the US Apple Store.
All MacBook Pro models now won't ship for 3-5 business days where they had normally been shipping in 24 hours. The company usually only institutes such delays in the US when a new release is imminent.
The move follows an earlier international delay and similar delays at third-party retailers. Apple commonly withdraws stock outside of core countries and at third-party stores ahead of a new release as it tries to satisfy demand at its own online and retail stores before making the switch.
Combined with news of resellers getting mystery shipments, the details point to Apple unveiling new MacBook Pros as soon as Tuesday and likely having them ready to sell the same day or soon afterwards, with five configurations on show. Apple will be making its first upgrade to the MacBook Pro in 10 months and should be upgrading to 2011 Core processors with faster dedicated graphics on 15- and 17-inch models. The 13-inch system may revert to Intel graphics instead of NVIDIA's, but the greatly improved graphics performance behind the Sandy Bridge architecture could lead to little if any performance drop off compared to the nearly year-old GeForce 320M.
