In the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit New Zealand last Tuesday, Google has re-launched a website that allow users to search for loved-ones they may have lost contact with.
Called Person Finder, the site is a simple, easy-to-use database where users may input pertinent information about the person they are looking for. The site then matches the information with other data that might lend clues to the person’s whereabouts. If no match is found, users are encouraged to leave a message.
Currently, there are over 6,000 records already created.
The site was first developed by Google with the help of the US State Department after the earthquake in Haiti in early 2010. It was again used for the earthquakes that hit Chile and China, also in 2010.
The earthquake in New Zealand occurred early Tuesday morning and was measured at a 6.3 magnitude.
The death toll is currently at 75, but is still expected to rise as more and more missing persons are reported.
