Nikon rumored showing mirrorless camera in March

Nikon is reportedly planning on introducing its first mirrorless camera, possibly towards the end of March.

First rumored in July last year, the new camera is expected to use mirrorless lens system similar to the Micro Four Thirds style or the Sony NEX series. In an interview, the head of Nikon Austria Wolfgang Lutzky has indicated that the March timeframe for such a product introduction is on the cards.

Lutzky was asked about the likelihood of Nikon entering the mirrorless market and pointed to Nikon’s end of financial year conference call in March where Nikon’s top-brass will likely lay out its plans in the mirroless lens segment. “The market of compact cameras with built-in lenses is saturated and we expect that it will shrink next year. In Japan and Great Britain mirrorless has a market share of 10%, we see a huge potential here,” he said.
