Pre-orders Verizon network for Apple iPhone 4

Pre-orders have begun for the long-awaited Apple iPhone 4 for the Verizon network.

Existing customers have begun placing their pre-orders on both the Apple Store and through Verizon. Traffic on the Verizon site just ahead of its launch was making it difficult to load its page, suggesting that interest in the device is high as expected.

The first reviews for the iPhone 4 on Verizon’s EVDO Revision A 3G network have been extremely favorable. Reviewers have noted that the call experience is much more consistent and reliable than on AT&T’s network. However, because Verzon's network is CDMA-based, it does not have the ability to simultaneously access data and make phone calls as users can on AT&T's faster 3G network. Reviewers have not suggested that this is a major issue, however, but were simply grateful to experience calls without notable dropouts.

All customers will have access to pre-orders and store reservations on February 9, and Apple's retail stores will open at 7AM on February 10. Plans are expected to start at $70 for 450 minutes of voice and unlimited data. The new 3G hotspot feature will cost an extra $20 per month to supply as many as five devices with a combined monthly allowance of 2GB of bandwidth.
