Toshiba's R800-series notebooks get Sandy Bridge processors

The first notebooks to get Intel's latest Sandy Bridge processors will be Toshiba's new Portege R800 series, which was just unveiled at MWC.

The new chips will bring powerful integrated graphics, which were missing from the Portege R700 predecessors. The notebooks also sport a re-engineered airflow cooling system.

At the same time, the series will get new 14- and 15.6-inch sizes for the R800s. Likewise new is the case material, with the 13-inch model getting a magnesium alloy and the 14- and 15.6-inch models get a high-stiffness resin case.

Despite this preliminary information, no official prices, model names or release dates for the US were revealed on the new notebooks, though Portege models have almost always reached the US shortly after their debuts elsewhere.
