LG Electronics is set to unveil the "more affordable and youthful" version of its Optimus One smartphone.
Priced at P8,990, the Optimus Me P350 is powered by Google's Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system.
It also has a 2.8-inch capacitive touch screen, a 3-megapixel camera, a stereo FM radio and a 2-gigabyte microSD (secure digital) card with up to 32GB memory card support.
Richard Javier, mobile communications head of LG Electronics Philippines, said the new product is ideal for consumers who have been "put off by what they see as excessively complex or feature-heavy devices."
"By making everything intuitive, the Optimus Me is the perfect entry device for those consumers, while also offering the latest Google Mobile Service Features to keep more tech-inclined users happy too," Javier said in a statement.
The Optimus One smartphone was launched globally last year via a virtual news conference, along with Optimus Chic. Both devices are also powered by the Android Froyo OS.
The said phones were initially sold at P12,900 each.
Just like the other mobile phone companies, LG said it wants to break away from the common notion that smartphones are predominantly for "rich, tech-savvy male users."
New smartphones usually cost at least P30,000 in the Philippines. Earlier last year, HTC Corp. launched a device which it called the "smartphone of the masses."
